Are You the Kind of Partner The Gambia Deserves?

By Ndey Jobarteh
We demand good partners. We expect loyalty, respect, care, and honesty from our life partners. But what about our loyalty, honesty, and sacrifice, not to a person, but to our country?
When Gambian men talk about marriage, the standards are sky high: “I want a good wife, respectful, caring, God-fearing, honest. Someone who’ll love me for who I am and support me no matter what.” And rightfully so. Everyone deserves a partner who brings peace, loyalty, and purpose into their life.
But what if we flipped the script?
What if The Gambia is the one looking for a husband?
And that husband… is you, the citizen. She’s not asking for much. Just love. Honesty. Loyalty. Care.
But what does she get instead?
A husband who:
Shows up with fake promises during election season.
Praises her in public, but cheats on her with corruption behind closed doors.
Neglects her needs, then becomes a “slay king” for donors, posing in suits and smiles while his own house is crumbling.
Throws money at conferences abroad, but can’t fix the clinic in his hometown.
Takes selfies in Geneva, but won’t walk the muddy roads of his own constituency.
The Gambia is tired of this toxic marriage.
She’s been lied to, abused, betrayed, yet she still hopes. Still believes. Still endures.
She’s looking for a husband who:
Protects her dignity.
Defends her from thieves in suits.
Builds a home where her children can thrive.
Loves her not just with words, but with sacrifice and service.
So ask yourself:
If The Gambia were a woman, would she choose you?
Would she feel safe, respected, and proud of your love?
Or would she feel used and betrayed, again and again?
It’s time to stop treating our country like an ATM, a trophy, or a stage for selfish ambition. The Gambia is not your side chick.
She’s your wife! Your responsibility! Your legacy!
Treat her right, or step aside.
Let us become the kind of citizens our country can be proud of.
Let us raise the standards not only in our homes, but in how we serve the land we call home. Because what belongs to all of us, deserves the best of all of us.🇬🇲🇬🇲🇬🇲
May God bless The Gambia!!! May we have leaders with care and vision!!
