Nigeria’s opposition movement is warning that the government’s proposed tax regime could worsen the country’s social and economic crisis. The National Opposition Movement (NOM) says the tax measures are punitive and ill-timed, and will hurt ordinary Nigerians.

Labour unions (NLC and TUC) are resisting the policies, saying they’ve pushed millions into poverty.

Opposition leaders are speaking out against authoritarianism and economic mismanagement.

Some state governors are expressing concerns about the tax regime’s impact

The opposition movement warns that pushing through the tax plan without consultation will have severe social and economic consequences. “You cannot tax hunger. You cannot tax poverty. And you cannot tax people into prosperity,” NOM declares.
