Handball Technical Coaching Course opens in Banjul

Banjul The Gambia, September 15, 2025 – The Gambia National Olympic Committee in it’s efforts to develop Sport for All and promote involvement at all levels is organizing a 5 days Technical Coaching Course for handball coaches of The Gambia Handball Association.

The program that will run from September 15th through September 19th was open on Monday at  Seaview Garden Hotel in Kololi.

Speaking at the opening ceremony The 1st Vice President of Gambia National Olympic Committee who doubles as the president of Gambia Handball Association Commisioner Lamin King Colley expressed his happiness for seeing this finally coming to fruition. 

This program is meant to enhance the coaching skills and knowledge of the selected participants. I am sure it will now enhance the skills and experience of our coaches Commisioner Colley lamented.

The Executive Director of Gambia National Sport Council Mahmud Jawla, expressed on government’s continued support and urged the participants to continue to research and dedicate time beyond the course.

We will continue to enhance the skills to continue developing Gambia sports. Let’s continue to invest in our people, athletes, and our community who are the core of our sport development ecosystem Jawla stated.

Dr Tarek Ahmed the Course Director from Egypt elaborated on the importance of the course. I am here to help you improve the sport of handball in The Gambia. This is why I am here, I am happy to be here and I believe this will be the start of good development milestone for Gambia Handball Association.

Building the capacity of our coaches, strengthening the capacity of our national association is core in the development pillars of the NOC the Secretary General of Gambia National Olympic Committee Yorro Njie said.

I will extend appreciation to the Ministry of Youth and Sport and the GNOC for their continued support, let’s affirmed our shared commitment to the development of handball in The Gambia and together we will be assured of merit at all level. It’s indeed my profound pleasure to declare this course open SG Njie declared.
