Aminat Lawal, the sister of abducted National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Rofiat Lawal, has revealed that the driver of the vehicle conveying her sister handed her over to the kidnappers.
Rofiat was abducted along the Benin-Ore Expressway on Tuesday while returning to her Place of Primary Assignment in Oyo State.
Aminat disclosed that her sister narrated how the driver stopped at Ore, where the kidnappers emerged from a nearby bush and took them, while the driver zoomed off.
The kidnappers initially demanded N25m ransom, but later reduced it to N5m after negotiations. The family has resorted to crowdfunding to raise the ransom.
A friend of the victim, Agbakwara, corroborated Aminat’s claim, stating that Rofiat told him the driver handed her over to the kidnappers.
The Oyo State NYSC Coordinator, Odoba Abel Oche, confirmed the incident, noting that the victim had left Oyo State for Edo State without notifying the state’s NYSC leadership.
Security operatives have been alerted, and efforts are being made to secure Rofiat’s release.
This incident is the latest in a series of kidnappings in the country, with growing concerns over the renewed surge in kidnapping.
