The stage was set for thrilling semi-final clashes in the late Governor Famara Jatta inter-banks football tournament. The teams, each with their own history and star players, had fought tooth and nail to make it this far.
Bloom Bank won GTBank 1-nil on Saturday whiles AGIB Bank also beat Trust Bank Gambia Limited by the same score line on Sunday at Momo’s Ground in Brusubi to set up a date for this year’s final.
Ousainou Njie, the most decorated coach in the tournament, in an interview with this reporter, said despite his side (GTBank) losing the game, they put up a respectable performance. He added that them not capitalising on their chances cost them the match.
“Tactically we were better but technically we did not take our chances and that was the difference. We take the defeat in good faith because we won the inter-bank tournament more than any team,” he stated.
Abdoulie Demba, head coach of Bloom Bank said they prepared very well for the game knowing that GTBank is a big team.
Trust Bank coach, Lamin Ceesay said he only talks to his players in the training ground and gives his goalkeeper the responsibility to talk to them in the field of play during match days. He blamed their defeat on them not capitalizing on their chances.
Musa Leigh, coach of AGIB Bank said their game plan was to kill the game during the first half, observing that second halves are always tense at this stage of every competition.
