Karpowership inaugurates new Navy Guard room

Karpowership, Turkish energy company in The Gambia on Wednesday 12th February 2025 inaugurated a new Navy Guard Room in Banjul.

The facility aims to enhance Navy’s personnel work and ensure marine security.

 It is also meant to motivate the security officials to execute their functions to expectations.

In his inaugural remarks, Omar Njie, country director for Karpowership described the facility as essential in enhancing the Navy’s personnel work.

“The facility is more than just an effort to ensure marine security but normalized the partnership between the company and the Gambia government,” he said.

He thanked all stakeholders who contributed in the smooth implementation of the security facility, while commending the Turkish Navy for sharing expertise in this project.

Njie noted that the project was successful as a result of the commitment of the Karpowership’s staff to work.

Rohey Malick Lowe, mayor of Banjul City Council described the construction of the facility as a remarkable initiative. This, she said would help to secure the country’s marine.

 “Together we can build a partnership of cooperation that would help to secure our marine,” she added.

However, Mayor Lowe called on the Turkish Company to support Banjul and the country as a whole, most especially in terms of providing sufficient water supply.

This, she said would definitely help to elevate the water supply constraints in the country.

Lieutenant General Mamat O. Cham, Chief of Defence Staff of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) described the Navy room as a critical national facility. He said it would enhance marine security as well as motivate Navy personnel to execute their functions.

He called on stakeholders to support the army to ensure they execute their functions as expected.

“Together we must ensure our marine is protected,” he added.

CDS Cham further said that with commitment and dedication the Navy would immensely protect the marine, while urging them to keep up their good work.

Lieutenant General Cham reaffirmed GAF commitment to securing the territorial integrity of The Gambia.

Turkish Ambassador to The Gambia, Turker F. Oba commended the management of Karpowership for improving the working conditions of the Navy.

“The company is committed and ready to support The Gambia Government in all aspects, he said. He also assured to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Lamin Camara, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy commended the management of Karpowership for constructing the Navy Guard Room. He said the facility is key in the country’s marine security.

“Karpowership has been supporting the Gambia in various aspects,” he added.

Emre Durmusoglu, Karpowership Africa Commercial Operations Director said the energy company is delighted with the hospitality of The Gambia and President Barrow’s commitment to development.

“We provide the needed access to electricity to the public affordably,” he said.

The Karpowership energy provided for the public would boost community economy as well improve the live and livelihood of the public.

In conclusion, he said Karpowership is committed to the security of The Gambia and her people to ensure the well-being of all.
