Nigeria: Samini says he does not need another hit song

Ghanaian dancehall star Samini has revealed that his priority for the rest of 2026 is not releasing another hit song but creating opportunities for emerging musicians, particularly those from his hometown of Dansoman in Accra.
The award-winning musician said he wants to use his influence and experience in the entertainment industry to help young talents gain recognition and introduce their creativity to a wider audience.
Samini disclosed his plans during the recent media launch of Samini Xperience at the Kegali Hotel in Accra. He explained that after years of building a successful music career, he believes it is time to focus more on supporting the next generation of artistes.
According to him, his position in the music industry comes with a responsibility to give back to the community that shaped him.
“The energy I’m known for comes with a responsibility to return home, bring that vibe to Dansoman (DC) and most importantly, use my platform to support the growing number of young talents coming up,” he said.
He added that releasing another hit song was not his main concern, stressing that helping upcoming musicians succeed had become a major priority.
“I don’t need to sing or write another hit song in 2026; I have a whole lot of young people to push,” Samini stated.
As part of his efforts to support young creatives, Samini plans to use this year’s edition of Samini Xperience to showcase promising musicians from Dansoman and give them an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.
The event is expected to provide a platform for upcoming artistes to connect with new audiences, attract industry attention and prove that the community has considerable musical talent.
Samini said he had received a wide range of creative work from young people in Dansoman and believed their efforts deserved greater visibility.
“I want to create a platform where young acts can showcase their talents to the world and prove that there is a new generation of DC that the world is not ready for yet,” he said.
He explained that bringing the event to Dansoman would allow people outside the community to experience its creative potential while giving local artistes an opportunity to perform before a larger audience.
The musician is no stranger to talent development. Through his High Grade Family record label, he has helped nurture musicians, including Kofi Kinaata, who went on to establish successful careers in the Ghanaian music industry.
Drawing from that experience, Samini believes established artistes can make a meaningful difference by opening doors for younger performers rather than concentrating solely on their personal achievements.
The 2026 edition of Samini Xperience is scheduled for December 24 as part of the week-long DC Carnival, also known as Dan Carnival, which will run from December 18 to 24.
The celebration is being organised in collaboration with the Dansoman Municipal Assembly and is expected to feature a series of activities aimed at bringing residents, visitors and members of the community together.
Samini described the partnership as an opportunity to combine his private outdoor event with the traditional carnival and its homecoming celebrations.
He explained that the collaboration would make the festivities bigger by allowing different activities to take place across Dansoman while encouraging participants to unite in celebrating the community.
According to him, the week-long programme will offer an opportunity to highlight the area’s cultural identity, creative industry and other attractions.
He also invited individuals and organisations interested in the initiative to join the celebrations and contribute to its success.
The musician believes the combined activities will strengthen community relationships while introducing Dansoman to a broader international audience.
Samini also clarified that Samini Xperience serves a different purpose from his Saminifest concert series.
While Saminifest takes performances to different parts of Ghana, Samini Xperience is designed primarily as a homecoming celebration that brings people together in Dansoman.
He explained that the event is not simply about putting on a concert but also about creating a sense of belonging and showcasing what his community has to offer.
For Samini, the initiative represents an opportunity to reconnect with his roots while helping local talents benefit from the visibility associated with his name.
Reflecting on his journey in the entertainment industry, the musician expressed gratitude for remaining relevant despite the significant changes that have taken place in Ghana’s music business.
He has witnessed the industry’s transition from cassette tapes and compact discs to digital streaming platforms, social media and other modern ways of distributing music.
That experience, he suggested, has given him a broader understanding of the opportunities available to emerging artistes and the challenges they face in getting noticed.
His latest initiative reflects a growing interest in using his established position to create opportunities for others.
Through Samini Xperience, he hopes to give young musicians from Dansoman a platform to develop their careers, reach new listeners and demonstrate their potential.
Rather than making another hit record his main ambition for 2026, Samini is placing greater emphasis on helping the next generation of musicians find their own voices and establish themselves in the industry.
