Nigeria: Osun monarch calls for urgent action over blackout, poor infrastructure

The traditional ruler of Ara community in Osun State, Olubayo Adesola, has appealed to the government to urgently address the lack of electricity and other basic amenities affecting residents.
Adesola said the community has continued to face serious developmental challenges despite residents participating in elections and other civic activities.
According to the monarch, poor electricity supply remains one of the major problems confronting the community. He said the prolonged lack of reliable power has affected the daily lives of residents and contributed to the slow pace of development in the area.
The traditional ruler also expressed concern over the poor state of infrastructure in Ara, saying residents were yet to experience sufficient government attention despite their contributions to the democratic process.
Beyond electricity, Adesola highlighted challenges affecting education and healthcare in the community.
He noted that although there is a school in the area, the absence of teachers has made it difficult for pupils to receive proper education. The situation, he said, has left families concerned about the quality of learning available to children in the community.
Residents also raised concerns about healthcare services, saying the local medical facility does not have adequate resources to meet their needs.
They explained that people often struggle to access essential medical care because of the limitations of the available facility.
The monarch therefore called on the state government and other relevant authorities to intervene by providing electricity, improving infrastructure, strengthening the local healthcare system and ensuring that qualified teachers are deployed to the community’s school.
He said urgent attention to these areas would improve living conditions and help accelerate development in Ara.
Residents similarly urged the authorities to consider the needs of the community and provide the basic services required for people to live and work in better conditions.
