GAJIGO’S PPA QUITS MERGER WITH GFA

The Patriotic Progressive Alliance (PPA) movement, headed by Dr Ousman Gajigo, has dissolved its merger with Gambia For All, GFA, saying, it will be joining the Unite/NUP alliance for the 2026 election.

A statement from PPA shared with The Standard explained that one of the main reasons the movement merged with GFA is the belief that a consolidation in the opposition camp is needed.

“But we have now reached a situation where it is obvious that there is going to be two main opposition groups and there is very little time left to fully prepare for the December 2026 election. At this late stage in the game, it is imperative to make clear where we stand,” the PPA said.

According to the movement, its partner GFA is going through their process to make their decision as to which group they will work with and an irreconcilable difference has emerged as to when that process needs to be concluded. The PPA leadership believes that time is now rather than later.

On why joining Unite-NUP alliance, the PPA said it believes that alliance provides a natural core of the group that can provide Gambians with the real change the country is yearning for. “This group has the combination of ambition, competence and new ideas that are central to bringing a new dawn in Gambian politics,” the PPA said.

On a personal level, the PPA leader Dr Ousman Gagigo said he still has the utmost respect for the leadership of GFA, which he said comprises individuals of integrity and principles. “We just happen to disagree with them on the urgency of making our position clear for 2026,” he said.
