Nigeria: NLC welcomes gratuity restoration but demand answers on decades of unpaid benefits

The Nigeria Labour Congress has welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to restore gratuity payments for workers, but says the move has raised fresh questions about decades of unpaid benefits to retired public servants.
NLC President Joe Ajaero said while the restoration is a step in the right direction, the government must also address arrears owed to pensioners who retired without gratuity under previous policies.
The Congress is now asking for clarity on how far back the payments will go, who qualifies, and the timeline for settling outstanding debts to retirees.
