Nigeria: Troops arrest five in Borno over stray bullet that killed 15-year-old girl

The Headquarters Theatre Command, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has arrested five persons in connection with the unauthorized discharge of firearms that led to the death of a 15-year-old girl in Maiduguri, Borno State. The incident occurred during a wedding celebration at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Teachers Staff Quarters, where vigilantes attached to a Local Government Area chairman fired sporadically into the air, resulting in the girl’s death.
The arrested suspects, identified as Muhammad Husaini (28), Abba Jiddu (25), Abba Kolo Mohammed (20), Ali Adam (20), and Nura Mohammed (18), are currently in custody and will face prosecution. The Theatre Command has condemned the act, describing it as “highly unprofessional, unauthorized, and a clear violation of established regulations governing the handling and use of firearms”
The incident has sparked an investigation, with the Theatre Command working with relevant state authorities to ensure justice is served. The public is assured of the troops’ commitment to protecting civilians and maintaining law and order.
