By Zuleihat Owuiye, Mamos Nigeria
As residents prepare to usher in the New Year, the Nasarawa State Police Command has issued a firm warning against the burning of used tyres during crossover night celebrations. The police say the practice, which has become common during festivities, poses serious risks to public safety, the environment, and vital infrastructure across the state.
Police authorities explained that officers have been directed to enforce the ban strictly, with anyone caught burning tyres facing arrest and prosecution.
Vulcanisers have also been advised to properly dispose of used tyres at the close of work each day to prevent misuse. Parents and guardians were urged to caution young people against engaging in unlawful activities, as the police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a peaceful, safe, and incident-free New Year celebration for everyone in the state.
