Timeline of Constitutional Breach, The Auditor General vs. the President

By Neneh Bojang
August 24, 2025:
At State House, President Barrow, Chief of Staff, and Secretary to the Cabinet allegedly urge Auditor General Modou Ceesay to halt or delay audits of the Ministry of Lands, GRA, and NFSPMC.
Direct interference in an independent audit process.
Late August 2025:
Meeting on the Central Bank audit (D1.2 billion delay). Present: President, Chief of Staff, Governor & First Deputy Governor of CBG, Auditor General.
Confirms State House involvement in audit matters.
September 10 (Midday):
Ceesay summoned to State House. The President hands him a sealed envelope, appointment as Minister of Trade.
Attempt to remove him through โpromotion.โ
September 10 (Afternoon):
Ceesay declines the offer in person. The President insists his replacement is already appointed.
Constitutional independence ignored.
September 10 (Night, 11 p.m.):
Chief of Staff and National Assembly Member for Sabach Sanjal visit Ceesayโs home, sent by the President to beg him to accept the post.
Pressure intensifies.
September 11 (Morning):
Ceesay sends formal letter rejecting the appointment. Delivered by his personal assistant and messenger to State House, Secretary to Cabinet, Finance PS, and PMO PS.
Documented proof of rejection.
September 12:
Elders, Imams, and relatives visit him, pleading on behalf of the President.
Social pressure replaces legal process.
September 15:
Police, acting under orders from the President and IGP, forcibly remove Ceesay from the National Audit Office.
A constitutional officer thrown out by force , a direct violation of Sections 158โ160 of the 1997 Constitution.
This is not just about one man.
Itโs about the destruction of Constitutional Order and the silencing of accountability Institutions. When a President can decide who audits him, the Republic itself is in danger.
The Republic Has Fallen The State Has Been Captured
