The European Union and National Youth Parliament Launch the Youth Advisory Committee

 PRESS RELEASE

The European Union Delegation to The Gambia and the National Youth Parliament – The Gambia (NYP) have established the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). This initiative is part of the EU’s commitment to youth empowerment and participation in decision-making processes, as outlined in the EU Youth Strategy 2021-2027 and the Youth Action Plan in the European Union external action.

The YAC will serve as a platform for young people to engage in dialogue on youth-related issues and provide a youth perspective on EU policies and projects. The committee will consist of 5 youth representatives from the NYP, with additional participants from other organizations invited to join depending on the nature of the consultation. A representative from the National Youth Council (NYC) will also be invited as an observer.

The YAC aims to ensure that EU policies and programs are inclusive and responsive to the needs of young people in The Gambia. The committee will provide a platform for young people to express their views and opinions and to contribute to the development of policies and programs that affect them.

“We are delighted to launch the Youth Advisory Committee, which will provide a platform for young people to contribute to decision-making processes,” said H.E. Immaculada ROCA I CORTES, EU Ambassador to The Gambia. “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to youth empowerment and participation.”

“The National Youth Parliament is proud to partner with the EU Delegation to establish the Youth Advisory Committee,” said Ndegen JOBE, outgoing Deputy Speaker of the National Youth Parliament – The Gambia. “This initiative will enable young people to have a greater say in the decisions that affect their lives and futures”, she remarked.
