Police investigate alleged child marriage in Jarra West

On Thursday, 10th July 2025, the Soma Police  initiated an investigation into an alleged case of child marriage in Sare Biran village.

According to the police, preliminary findings indicate that the victim is a 15-year-old girl. Based on this information, the father, mother, the alleged husband, and the messenger who arranged the marriage, along with witnesses from the village mosque, were invited to Soma Police Station for questioning.

“The incident constitutes an offence under Section 24 (a), (b), and (c) of the Children’s Amendment Act, 2016, which prohibits child marriage.”

“The Gambia Police Force strongly condemns child marriage in all forms and warns that anyone found engaging in or facilitating such acts will face the full force of the law,” the police warned.
