A 44-year-old woman, Goodness Daniel, has been sentenced to five years in prison by a High Court in Awka, Anambra State, for her involvement in human trafficking.
The presiding judge, Justice Peace Otti, delivered the ruling on June 27, 2025. Daniel was found guilty of buying and selling human beings, a violation under the 2015 Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act.
She was given the option to pay a fine of ₦2 million instead of serving the prison term. In addition to the sentence, the court ordered her to pay ₦2.6 million in restitution to the victim, who also testified during the trial.
Daniel had been arraigned in July 2024 after being charged by authorities responsible for investigating human trafficking crimes in the state.
The conviction is considered a significant step in the ongoing efforts to fight human trafficking and ensure justice for victims.
