Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a woman who allegedly sold her two‑month‑old infant for N1.5 million. Police Public Relations Officer Mr Bright Edafe confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday.
According to Edafe, on 15 December the woman, identified as Ughale, reported at the Ekpan Police Division that her baby had been snatched during a robbery while she was travelling in a tricycle. The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Labe Joseph, immediately mobilised officers for a search‑and‑rescue operation. However, inconsistencies and suspicious behaviour during the investigation prompted deeper interrogation.
Under further questioning, Ughale confessed that the robbery story was fabricated and that she had actually sold the baby to two suspects for N1.5 million. Police moved swiftly, arresting the suspects and rescuing the infant, who is now safe. All suspects are currently in custody, and investigators are working to apprehend any additional accomplices for prosecution.
