US-led airstrikes in Sokoto State’s Tangaza Local Government Area have likely hit terrorist targets, according to security sources and local officials. The operation, conducted in coordination with Nigerian authorities, aimed to decimate ISIS camps and disrupt terrorist activities.
President Donald Trump announced the strikes, stating they targeted ISIS terrorists killing Christians in Nigeria. The Code Pink, a US-based human rights group, questioned the legality and morality of the strikes, citing civilian casualties and lack of transparency.
Sokoto residents and officials confirm attacks on suspected terrorist camps, with some reports of injuries and unconfirmed fatalities. The Nigerian government has not released an official casualty count, sparking debate and criticism.
Senator Ali Ndume urges expanded joint operations to North-East, targeting Boko Haram and ISWAP strongholds. Yobe residents welcome US intervention but fear retaliation and civilian harm.
Critics argue the airstrikes undermine Nigerian sovereignty, while others see it as a necessary step to combat terrorism. The US Congress has backed the operation, citing protection of Christians in Nigeria.
