A collision between a tipper truck and a gas tanker on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos has resulted in the deaths of two people. The incident occurred at around 2:36 a.m. on Saturday near Tera Ahmed Bus Stop in Sangotedo, Lagos.
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the tipper truck, which was speeding from the Epe axis, rammed into the rear of the stationary gas tanker, triggering a fire outbreak that spread to surrounding properties. Three warehouses and 10 roadside shops, including a gym and a generator house, were affected by the blaze.
Firefighters from Lekki Phase II, Oniru, and Epe II Fire stations were deployed to the scene and successfully brought the fire under control, preventing it from escalating further. The swift response saved a nearby filling station, a fully loaded 33,000-litre Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) tanker, and other valuable properties.
The driver of the tipper truck and his assistant were recovered dead, while the driver of the gas tanker escaped unhurt. Efforts are ongoing to evacuate the wreckage of the affected vehicles.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that normalcy has returned to the area as authorities continue clearance operations.
