A devastating incident has shaken the River Valley Estate community in Ogun State, Nigeria. Ganiyat Ayanwale, a 13-year mother of three, was brutally stabbed to death by her husband, Ayoola Ayanwale, in front of their children. The attack occurred on January 12, 2026, and Ganiyat succumbed to her injuries at Gifted Hands Hospital around 8:30 p.m.
Neighbors described Ayoola as a serial wife beater, alleging he attempted to force Ganiyat to ingest a poisonous substance before stabbing her multiple times. The couple’s children witnessed the horrific act, and one of them screamed after the first stab. Ganiyat tried to escape but was dragged back and stabbed again.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident and is investigating. Ayoola was found dead in an open field in Sotubo, a suburb of Ogun State, barely 12 hours after the attack, with suspected suicide as the cause of death. Items recovered at the scene included a bottle with a suspected liquid substance, two mobile phones, a voter’s card, and an ATM card.
This tragic incident highlights the dangers of domestic violence. Experts warn that abusive relationships rarely improve with silence and often escalate, leading to fatal outcomes. The message is clear: staying alive is more important than staying married, and there’s no shame in choosing yourself.
