A young boy has died in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, after allegedly being beaten by a man who accused him of unlawfully plucking cocoa pods.
The incident occurred at Alumni Quarters, where the boy was reportedly attacked and later taken to the police station in an unconscious state around 2:30 p.m. He was quickly referred for medical treatment but sadly passed away hours later at the hospital.
The suspect has since been arrested, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure for a thorough investigation. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
Authorities have condemned the act, warning against jungle justice and urging residents not to take laws into their own hands. They stressed that such actions not only destroy lives but also undermine peace and justice in society.
