Nigeria: Tambuwal quits PDP, joins ADC amidst internal crisis

Aminu Tambuwal, former Speaker of the House of Representatives and ex-Governor of Sokoto State, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Tambuwal cited the PDP’s persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and deepening divisions as reasons for his decision.
In a statement, Tambuwal expressed gratitude for the PDP’s role in shaping his political career, but stated that the party’s internal deterioration made continued membership untenable. He believes the ADC offers a stronger platform for democratic progress, built on integrity, accountability, and national development.
Tambuwal’s defection follows other prominent figures, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi, positioning the ADC as a credible opposition platform ahead of the next electoral cycle.
