Nigeria: Rivers State Police arrest Goodnews Iberi for kidnapping, murder

Rivers State Police have arrested a 26-year-old man, Goodnews Iberi, for kidnapping and killing a 25-year-old woman, Rita Eleonu. The victim was lured to Rumuakunde community through her friend, Blessing, and later taken to an “evil forest” along the East/West Road in Emohua, where she was murdered.
Iberi and his accomplices collected a ransom of N210,000 from Rita’s family before killing her. The police arrested Iberi on January14 2026, and recovered Rita’s decomposing remains from the forest. The body has been deposited at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) morgue for autopsy.
The Rivers State Police Commissioner, Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the operatives for their swift action and urged citizens to report suspicious activities and provide credible information to aid in the arrest of other members of the syndicate.
