Abuja-based singer Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known as Nanyah, has passed away after suffering a snake bite at her residence on Saturday, January 31, 2026. Nwangene, a member of Amemuso Choir, sought medical attention at two different hospitals but was reportedly left untreated due to the unavailability of anti-venom at both facilities.

According to Amemuso Choir’s statement, Nwangene was a rising star who was on the cusp of sharing her incredible talent with the world. Her voice and spirit will be deeply missed.

The Music Director of Amemuso Choir, Sam Ezugwu, recounted the final hours of Nwangene, saying she was in severe distress when he arrived at the hospital. Medical personnel required two doses of anti-venom, but only one was available, and Nwangene passed away at 12:20 p.m.

Nwangene’s death highlights the importance of access to medical care, especially in emergency situations. Snake bites can be fatal if not treated promptly, and the lack of anti-venom in hospitals is a significant concern.
