Nigeria: Police arrest suspect in Edo State after recovering burnt corpse

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a member of a local vigilante in Benin for allegedly killing an artisan, Lasan Osaze Erhabor, and setting his corpse ablaze. 

The suspect, who was the security person of the sawmill where the incident occurred, is currently in police custody.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the command, Moses Yamu, the police received a distress call from members of the public at about 8 am on February 24, 2025, reporting a burning corpse under a heap of sawdust. Upon investigation, the police found a gunshot injury on the back of the deceased.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for in-depth investigations, and the suspect will be charged in court for murder after the investigation is complete.
