The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has pledged to strengthen intelligence sharing and collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) to combat escalating security threats, violent extremism, and inter-communal tensions across the country.

This commitment follows a recent warning by the DSS about a planned attack by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) targeting Ondo and Kogi States

Governors emphasized the need for enhanced coordination with federal agencies, especially in states like which borders 10 states and the FCT, making it a strategic security hotspot.

Economic Stability

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) briefed governors on efforts to curb inflation, unify exchange rates, and recapitalize banks. The NGF praised the CBN’s approach and stressed sustained collaboration.

Reserved Seats for Women Bill (HB1349) will be voted on , aiming to create gender-inclusive constituencies in the National and State Assemblies.

Earlier in April 2025, governors established a committee to collaborate with security chiefs (DSS, military, police) for immediate action against banditry and kidnappings

Security agencies in Ondo and Kogi have heightened surveillance to counter the threat.

Benue, Katsina, Borno, and Plateau have left hundreds dead, underscoring the urgency of the crisis.

“The situation is alarming. We must deepen intelligence sharing and work with federal agencies to restore peace,” said Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq NGF Chairman. Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu* added, “Proactive engagement with the DSS is critical to subnational coordination.”

Governors will lobby lawmakers to pass the Women’s Bill and support technology-driven security solutions, including state police proposals.

This unified approach aims to address Nigeria’s complex security challenges, but success hinges on implementation and public trust. What’s your take on this initiative.
