Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, the young Nigerian Navy officer recently involved in a heated confrontation with the FCT Minister, was reportedly trailed by unidentified individuals in Abuja on Sunday night.
According to sources familiar with the incident, two unmarked Hilux vans without number tags began following Yerima shortly after he left the NIPCO Filling Station along the Kubwa Expressway. The vehicles allegedly continued trailing him towards Gado Nasco Way.
The officer, sensing danger, was said to have made a series of strategic driving maneuvers that allowed him to shake off the unknown men. The incident happened around 6:30 p.m.
Security officials are now investigating the matter. One source said the case is sensitive and declined to share additional details, noting that releasing more information could compromise the ongoing investigation.
Yerima has been in the public eye following a tense encounter with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, an incident that sparked widespread debate and mixed reactions across the country. The matter drew the attention of the Presidency, which reportedly instructed the FCT administration to pull back demolition equipment earlier deployed to the disputed property in Gaduwa District.
At the moment, authorities have not released an official statement on the reported trailing incident, but security agencies are said to be looking into all angles.
