The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted the public to a suspected revalidated batch of SMA Gold First Infant Milk Formula (900g) being sold in Kaduna State. The product, with batch number 22939510A1206 07:35, has altered expiry dates and is linked to a case of gastrointestinal distress in a four-month-old infant.

According to NAFDAC, the product’s manufacturing and expiry dates on the top preprinted sticker are inconsistent with the original print, indicating tampering. The agency warns that revalidating infant formula dates poses significant risks to public health, including malnutrition, secondary infections, and fatal outcomes.

The original product details are:

– Manufacturing Date: May 28, 2023

– Expiration Date: May 28, 2025

– NAFDAC Reg. No: B1-2783

The revalidated dates are:

– Manufacturing Date: January 20, 2025

– Expiration Date: January 20, 2027

NAFDAC advises against using the product and urges distributors, retailers, and caregivers to exercise caution. Report any suspicions to NAFDAC at 0800-162-3322 or sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
