Host nation, Morocco secured a spot in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, defeating Nigeria 4-2 on penalties after a tense 0-0 draw in Rabat. Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was the hero, saving two Nigerian penalties, including a brilliant stop from Bruno Onyemaechi, allowing Youssef En-Nesyri to score the winning kick.

The match was a tactical battle, with Morocco dominating possession but struggling to break through Nigeria’s defense. Nigeria’s Super Eagles had few clear-cut chances, and their attack was largely subdued. Morocco’s defensive discipline and midfield control were key to their success.

Morocco will face Senegal, the 2021 champions, in the AFCON final on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. Nigeria, meanwhile, will contest the third-place playoff against Egypt.
