Nigeria: Man kills girlfriend in Ogoja

A man identified as Nwang has reportedly killed his girlfriend, Moshe, in a farm and concealed her body in the bush over alleged infidelity, authorities said. The deceased, who hailed from Ibil community, had been cohabiting with the suspect from Ekpugrinya, about eight kilometres away, without a formal engagement or payment of bride price, her family stated.
The suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody. However, a large group of women have besieged the Ogoja Divisional Police Station, demanding the suspect be released to them for vigilante justice.
“Cruelty like this exists because the system has failed us. The man snuffed the life out of another human being and does not deserve to live. We are ready to deliver justice ourselves,” said Uduma, one of the protesting women.
The police have refused to release the suspect, citing that they will not accede to the demands of the women protesters. The family of the deceased is grieving, with Moshe’s cousin, Joy Philip, expressing shock and sadness over the incident.
