The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has arrested a man named Sylvester Onyekwere for dumping refuse on the median of Ago Palace Way in Okota, Lagos State. This arrest was made on 31, around 7:15 am, after LAWMA’s Surveillance and Enforcement team caught him in the act.
Dumping refuse on the road median, violating Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law.
Transferred to LAWMA’s Legal Team office in Oshodi for prosecution
LAWMA’s Managing Director, Muyiwa Gbadegeshin, confirmed the arrest and urged residents to manage their waste responsibly and use licensed waste operators. Residents can report infractions by calling 07080601030 or visit (link unavailable) to obtain LAWMA-approved smart bins.
This isn’t an isolated incident, as LAWMA has been actively enforcing environmental laws in Lagos. In May, a man named Ogunbadejo Olawale was arrested for dumping waste on the roadside in Alapere. The state Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized that such acts are punishable under Lagos State law.
