Nigeria: Kogi Polytechnic sacks lecturer for sexual misconduct

Lokoja — Kogi State Polytechnic announced on Sunday that it has terminated the appointment of Mr Mukhtar Muhammed, a lecturer, after finding him guilty of sexually molesting a student. In a separate disciplinary decision, the institution also dismissed Mrs Funmilayo Afolabi, an Assistant Chief Executive Officer, for being absent from duty for nine months.
Director of Public Relations and Protocol Mrs Uredo Omale disclosed the actions in a statement issued on the sidelines of the school’s Governing Council meeting. The statement noted that the 72nd regular meeting of the Governing Council, chaired by Barrister Sani Shaibu on 19 December 2025, approved a series of personnel actions: 11 Principal Lecturers were elevated to Chief Lecturers, 49 academic staff and 71 non‑teaching staff were promoted for the 2024 exercise, and 225 academic staff and 227 non‑teaching staff for the 2025 exercise. The promoted Chief Lecturers include Mr Ehimony James Baba Tunde, Mrs Ajayi Omolola Felicia, Engr Anikoh Godwin Ateiza, Dr Acharu Faith Tony‑Okeme, Dr Raji Abdulwasiu Adeyemi, Mrs Akinola Hope Ojochide, Mrs Olayiwola Grace Eleojo, Mr Aminu Fasasi Olanrewaju, Mr Boluromi Samuel Sunday, Mr Salawu Abdulazeez, and Arc Dr Thompson Ochedi Ekele.
