A Kano Magistrate Court has directed two popular TikTok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, to formalize their relationship through marriage within 60 days. The ruling, delivered on Tuesday October 21,2025 by Magistrate Halima Wali, follows their prosecution for posting videos deemed “indecent” by the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Boards.
The controversy began when viral TikTok videos showed the duo engaging in which authorities classified as “immoral and demeaning acts” violating Kano’s censorship laws. Mai Wushirya was briefly remanded in a correctional facility pending investigation, while Yar Guda was cautioned by the board.
The case highlights ongoing tensions between state-mandated morality enforcement and individual rights in Nigeria’s social media landscape. Preparations for the marriage are expected to begin once the court issues formal documentation to the Hisbah Board.
