Suspected gunmen have killed the traditional ruler of Ishinkwo community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Eze Josephat Ikegwu. The monarch was shot through the window of his bedroom on Tuesday night while he was at home with his wife.

The Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area, Ikechukwu Ogbuofia, confirmed the killing, describing it as unfortunate. The Ebonyi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident.

This is the second traditional ruler to be killed in Ebonyi State in recent times. In March, Francis Igwe, another traditional ruler, was abducted and later died from injuries sustained while in captivity.

The motive behind the killing is still unclear, but sources suggest it may be linked to an internal crisis within the community. The police have promised to apprehend and prosecute those involved.
