Tragedy struck Jigawa State on Tuesday afternoon when a horrific road accident along the Dutse–Kiyawa Road claimed the lives of at least 18 people and left two others fighting for survival.
The crash involved two Golf 3 cars and a tipper truck, turning a busy stretch of road into a scene of chaos and heartbreak. Witnesses described hearing a loud impact followed by desperate cries for help as passersby rushed in to assist those trapped inside the wreckage.
Residents said one of the vehicles lost control at high speed, hit a streetlight, and collided with an oncoming car before a tipper truck crushed both vehicles.
Many of the victims were said to be from Fake village in Kiyawa Local Government Area, deepening the community’s sense of loss. Police confirmed that most of the victims died on the spot, while others were rushed to hospital, where two later succumbed to their injuries. Authorities have begun investigations into the cause of the crash and urged motorists to slow down and drive responsibly to prevent further tragedies on the state’s roads.
