Tragedy struck in Gombe State on Monday as the body of a teenage boy was discovered in a gully erosion site at Hayin Kwarin Misau Quarters following a night of heavy rainfall.
According to the state police spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, officers received a distress call around 6:30 a.m. and promptly responded to the scene. The boy, estimated to be about 15 years old, showed no visible signs of injury or violence.
“Our preliminary assessment suggests he may have drowned due to the intense downpour the night before,” Abdullahi stated.
The unidentified teenager had no form of identification on him when he was found. His remains were taken to the Gombe Specialist Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
Detectives documented the scene, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the full circumstances of his death. Authorities are also working to identify the deceased and locate his family.
The police have appealed to members of the public for assistance. “Anyone with helpful information that could aid in identifying him or contacting his relatives is encouraged to come forward,” the PPRO urged.
