Ex-presidential aspirant Faduri Oluwadare Joseph has faulted President Bola Tinubu’s decision to grant presidential pardons to individuals convicted of serious crimes, including drug trafficking, terrorism, and murder. Faduri expressed concern that the move may undermine national security, justice, and public confidence in governance.
Faduri believes that releasing individuals who have shown disregard for human life and the rule of law may send the wrong message about accountability and justice.
The pardon could embolden criminal elements and create the impression that grave offenses can be easily forgiven without due consideration for victims or national security
Faduri emphasizes the need to balance compassion with accountability, stressing that mercy must never come at the expense of justice or public safety.
The former Labour Party presidential aspirant urged the Federal Government to establish clearer guidelines for granting clemency, ensuring transparency and fairness in the pardon process
President Atiku Abubakar also criticized the pardons, describing them as “reckless” and a dangerous assault on Nigeria’s justice system.
Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication in the South-East, Josef Onoh, called for the pardon to be revoked, citing concerns about Nigeria’s international reputation and the potential demoralization of security operative.
