The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a high-level security alert warning of planned coordinated attacks by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in several communities across Ondo and Kogi states. The memo, dated October 20, 2025, was addressed to the Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery, Owena Cantonment, Akure.
The attack plan follows a three-year anniversary of the June 2022 St. Francis Catholic Church massacre in Owo, where over 40 worshippers were killed by suspected ISWAP militants.
Authorities convened an emergency meeting with local stakeholders on October 23 2025, to heighten vigilance and strengthen community-police collaboration.
The DSS memo urges the military to immediately scale up security operations to prevent casualties.
