The Ogun State Police Command has begun an investigation after controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, turned himself in to the authorities on Wednesday.
Portable surrendered at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta, after being declared wanted by the police for his alleged involvement in a violent altercation with officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
According to the police, Portable allegedly attacked the officials with a firearm and nine thugs, causing injuries to the officials. Nine of Portable’s accomplices were arrested, but the singer went into hiding.
Portable had claimed that he was being set up because he wore a vest featuring the image of a local lawmaker. He also claimed to be mentally unstable and showed a medical card from a psychiatric hospital.
The police have arraigned nine of Portable’s associates for allegedly assaulting the officials. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public that due process will be followed in handling the matter, and updates will be provided as necessary.
