Nigeria: Cigarette stub sparks fire, destroys six rooms in Ibadan

A fire outbreak in the early hours of Tuesday destroyed six rooms in a residential building at Akinsoji Zone, Ogbere Moradeyo, Oremeji area of Ibadan.

The blaze, which started around 5:55 a.m., was traced to a carelessly dropped cigarette that ignited nearby materials, quickly engulfing the structure. Firefighters from both the Oyo State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service responded promptly, preventing the flames from spreading to surrounding houses.

Although no lives were lost, the building suffered extensive damage, leaving the occupants counting their losses. Authorities have since urged residents to take fire safety seriously by keeping extinguishers at home and avoiding careless practices that could trigger similar disasters.
