The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 33-year-old man, Obinna Anene, accused of conspiring to kill a 74-year-old wheelchair-bound woman, Alice Anene, in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area. Anene, from Amene Village in Abagana, allegedly worked with three others, who are still in police custody, to set the victim ablaze on January 25.

After committing the heinous crime, the suspects attempted to bury the victim’s remains in a casket, along with her wheelchair. However, police operatives intervened, recovering the burnt remains, the wheelchair, and the casket. Anene initially fled the scene but was later tracked down and arrested.

The Anambra State Police Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that Anene has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, Awka for further questioning. The police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder.

This incident is not the first of its kind in Anambra State. In a similar case, four suspects, including a 21-year-old woman, were arrested for allegedly burning a 74-year-old wheelchair-bound woman to death in Ifitedenu area.
