The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) reports that terrorists have killed and abducted 1,402 Christians in Nigeria between January 1 and April 6, 2026. The group states that 450 people were killed and 600 abducted during this period, with many more displaced or forced to flee their homes.

According to Emeka Umeagbalasi, Chairman of Intersociety, the Nigerian government has been accused of downplaying the severity of these attacks, labeling them as “farmers-herders clashes” rather than acknowledging the targeted persecution of Christians. Umeagbalasi claims that state actors are involved in the violence, and security forces have failed to protect vulnerable communities.

Intersociety is calling for international attention and action to address the ongoing violence and protect Nigerian Christians. The group highlights the dire situation faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs), with over 4,513 currently sheltered at the Home for the Needy Foundation in Edo State.
