Gambia’s Collaboration With ISSA
History and Facts
The Gambia National Olympic Committee was established in 1972 and was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1976. The Gambia began participating in the Islamic Solidarity Games from the very first edition in 2005 and has not missed any edition since.
To date, The Gambia has won a total of 4 medals in the Islamic Solidarity Games: 3 gold and 1 silver.
Sprinter Gina Mariam Bass Bittaye played a key role in winning all four of The Gambia’s medals at the Islamic Solidarity Games. She claimed two gold medals in the 100m and 200m races in the Baku 2017 and Konya 2021 editions, respectively, a silver in the 200m at Baku 2017, and a gold in the 4x100m relay at Konya 2021.
At the 6th ISG 2025 Gambia will send sixteen athletes aiming to continue on the successes.
