GAMBIA: MY FEW WORDS RESPONSE TO DR ESSA TOURAY

“Dr. Essa Touray, a video excerpt of your interview on one of the myriads of Gambian social media platforms, is making rounds, in which you made some disparaging claims against my leadership and that of my councillors: Sheriffo Bayo Sonko and Bubacarr Siddiq Jammeh!
In the video, you claimed that I am on record of claiming that I will employ only UDP supporters at BAC and that I nominated Sheriffo Bayo Sonko, who is not competent and Bubacarr Siddiq.
I beg to differ with you on these claims and hopefully we can agree to disagree. Firstly, your recollection of my statement is inaccurate and misleading, which had taken my statement out of context.
But just to bring you to trends, with what is happening at BAC, since I took over leadership at its helms, many continue to work under my leadership from diverse political persuasions (not just UDP) and I have never taken anyone’s political opinion against them for discrimination.
But like I said in the interview, which you have decided to distort, I stated it then and maintain the same, that if job opportunities emerge at BAC, I will not discriminate UDP supporters, because they are UDP and will give them the opportunity to be employed at BAC’.
If you wish to interpret that as me saying, I will only employ UDP supporters, even though that is not what is happening at BAC, you are more than welcomed to subscribe to that conviction, but it wouldn’t distort what is obvious!
As for the nominations of Sheriffo Bayo Sonko and Bubacarr Siddiq Jammeh as councillors, I want you to understand that I am very grateful to have both Sheriffo Bayo Sonko and Bubacarr Siddiq Jammeh, as my nominated councillors at BAC!
Since their nominations, together with their other colleague councillors, we have closed many black holes at BAC; boost BAC’s revenue to D244 million in 2025; about to disburse D70 million in 3 years back to our people of WCR for development; procured D101 million of waste management equipment, which is easing waste disposal in WCR.
Thus, I do not need them to be university professors or doctorate holders in Transport or Business or world renowned experts in such fields to prove their worth! They have already proven that without such educational accolades!
And since their nominations, I have only had compliments from the stakeholders of the interest groups, they represent, which does not include you, Dr.!
