Nigeria: Kogi State employs 1,050 hunters, absorbs vigilantes into civil service

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State announced that his administration has taken several steps aimed at curbing insecurity in the state. Speaking on Thursday in Lokoja during a three‑day training programme on development and infrastructure, Ododo said the state has:

The governor, represented at the event by Finance Commissioner Mukadam Asiru Asiwaju, highlighted other achievements from the first two years of his term, focusing on economic revitalisation, infrastructure expansion and social welfare programmes.

The government plans to complete over 500 km of roads, install solar streetlights and rehabilitate waterworks across the state.

 Free healthcare services have been expanded, educational support increased, and empowerment programmes for women and youths implemented.

Ododo stressed the importance of aligning current and future projects with the state’s 32‑Year Development Plan to ensure continuity and sustainable growth. He urged participants in the training programme to apply the knowledge gained toward advancing Kogi’s vision for prosperity by 2056.

The governor’s remarks come amid ongoing security challenges in the region, and the newly employed hunters and integrated vigilantes are expected to bolster local efforts to combat crime.
