Ms Neneh Bojang Honored at Phenomenal 100 Women Recognition Awards in The Gambia

The 10th International Women Power Conference (IWPC) concluded in The Gambia with a resounding celebration of women’s leadership, empowerment, and cultural innovation. Among the distinguished honorees was Ms Neneh Bojang,Chair Lady and Co-Founder of the HeForShe Music Movement, Head of the Inter-African Committee (IAC) – Norway, and Founder of The Neneh on Mamosmedia Foundation.
On November 28th, at the Bakadaji Hotel in Banjul, Bojang was recognized with the Phenomenal African Woman Gender Justice & Social Impact Leadership Award, part of the prestigious Phenomenal 100 Women Recognition Awards.The accolade marks her first award from the African contingent, making the honor particularly meaningful as it was received in her birthplace, The Gambia.
Her award was accepted on her behalf by Mr. Dembo Jobarteh, CEO and Co-Founder of the HeForShe Music Movement.
A Decade of Empowerment
The two-day IWPC 2025, themed “Unleashing Collective Power for Global Impact”, was hosted at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Centre and Bakadaji Hotel. The event brought together policymakers, diplomats, creatives, and changemakers from across Africa and beyond.
– Day One featured keynote addresses, panel discussions, and the Global Leading Women Awards,spotlighting innovation and humanitarian leadership.
– Day Two celebrated African fashion and culture through the Vogue Show, culminating in the Phenomenal 100 Women Awards Gala Dinner.
Key figures included First Lady of The Gambia Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow, keynote speaker , Her Regal Majesty Enitan-O Gunwusi, country host Amb. Zainab Musa Darboe Jammeh, guest of honour Dr. Chetachi Ecton Nwoga, host Amb. King Tonto Dikeh,and co-hosts Fanta Ceesay and others.
Organisers highlighted that IWPC has empowered thousands of women over the past decade, positioning Africa as a global hub for gender equality and inclusive development.
Neneh Bojang’s Reflections
In a gratitude message, Bojang expressed deep humility and pride:
“This recognition is about the countless women, girls, and communities whose voices, struggles, and resilience continue to inspire my journey. From the work with the HeForShe Music Movement, to leading the Inter-African Committee (IAC) – Norway, and through the impact of The Neneh on Mamosmedia Foundation, every step has been fueled by a passion for justice, equality, and empowerment.”
She extended thanks to the organizing committee, Amb. Dr. Chris Oko Odey, and country host Amb. Zainab Musa Darboe Jammeh, dedicating the award to “all phenomenal women and men across Africa and beyond who continue to break barriers, uplift communities, and champion gender justice.”
A Global Citizen Honored at Home
For Bojang, the award carries profound significance as it represents recognition from Africa and specifically The Gambia, her homeland, despite her global footprint as a feminist and gender activist. She congratulated all fellow awardees and acknowledged the billions of women worldwide striving to improve humanity.
Her Majesty Zainab Jammeh, IWPC Chair Lady Africa, and Abdoulie Jagne of the IWPC 2025 Gambia team were also acknowledged for their support in making the event a success.
As Bojang affirmed: “Together, we rise. Together, we transform. Together, we are phenomenal.”
