The Senate Adhoc Committee on South-East/North East of the Senate National Security Summit 2025 has assured the people of the South East of its resolve to restore normalcy and adequate security in the region. Senator Austin Akobundu, Chairman of the committee, made this assurance during a security summit in Enugu, emphasizing the National Assembly’s commitment to ensuring inter-agency collaboration among security agencies.
The committee vowed to restore peace, progress, and prosperity in the South East, with adequate resources appropriated and released for the task.
The summit addressed the worsening security situation, with communities traumatized, displaced, and farmlands abandoned.
The situation has led to spikes in poverty, hunger, disease, and illiteracy, with schools experiencing low enrollment and poor performance in national and international exams.
The chairman urged stakeholders to continue collaborating to achieve collective goals, praising frontline officers for their sacrifices.
The summit aimed to tackle security issues, enabling Nigerians to contribute to finding comprehensive solutions to lingering insecurity. The Speaker, Enugu House of Assembly, emphasized the need for partnerships among governments, communities, security agencies, and civil society organizations to address the insecurity.
