Nigeria: US President Trump to meet New York City Mayor-elect Zohran

US President Donald Trump will meet with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani at the White House on Friday, November 21. This meeting comes after months of mutual criticism and sharply divergent political visions between the two leaders.
Trump had backed Mamdani’s opponent, Andrew Cuomo, and threatened to cut federal funding for New York if Mamdani won. Mamdani, a democratic socialist, has been critical of Trump’s policies, including his crackdown on immigration and US support for Israel during the Gaza war.
Mamdani’s spokesperson confirmed the meeting, stating that the Mayor-elect plans to discuss public safety, economic security, and the affordability agenda with Trump. Mamdani’s campaign focused on affordable housing, childcare, free rides on city buses, and city-run grocery stores.
Trump has repeatedly labeled Mamdani a “communist,” while Mamdani has challenged Trump, saying, “Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you — turn the volume up!” The meeting marks a significant encounter between two influential figures with vastly different visions for New York City and the US.
