Nigeria: Soldier killed by mentally unstable man in Ikorodu

The Nigerian Army’s 81 Division has confirmed the death of a soldier who was attacked by a mentally unstable man in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The soldier, who was on internal security duty in the Imota area, was reportedly trying to de-escalate a chaotic situation when the attacker struck him from behind with a heavy log, causing fatal injuries. Other soldiers at the scene were able to subdue the assailant and recover the soldier’s body.

Videos that circulated on social media showed the aftermath of the attack, including the lifeless body of the soldier and the attacker lying on the ground. Early reports suggesting the attacker had used a rifle were later clarified by the army.

The army has stated that investigations are ongoing to fully understand the circumstances of the incident, emphasizing the preliminary nature of the information released so far.
