Nigeria: Terror in Edo: Kidnappers turn forests into fear fields

November 3 2025 — The lush forests of Edo State, once a symbol of prosperity, have transformed into a living nightmare. From Agenebode to Ekpoma, Uromi to Auchi, kidnappers now rule, leaving families in fear, farmers abandoned, and communities crippled. The menace, once confined to Sambisa and Zamfara, has spread to the “Heartbeat of the Nation.”
Two minors abducted from Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary (July 10, 2025) remain captive for 115 days. Their viral video, pleading for freedom while clutching a skull, haunts the nation.
A graduate kidnapped post-convocation, was rescued after a ₦20 million ransom plea.
A 12-year-old girl seized, was also freed after ₦5 million demand. A suspect revealed local “Yahoo boys” colluded with Fulani herders.
12 passengers abducted near Afuze had a driver and a breastfeeding mothers spared.
